When one succumbs to a literary alter ego in order to describe the parodox of beauty and insanity they recognise in the world around them, in order to separate their own personal experience from their perception of beauty in the world around them.

Refers to the nom de plume of prolific Tennessee "Southern Gothic" author Verless Doran who of short stories about the beautiful "underbelly" of society.
