Ziebart Paradox

What is Ziebart Paradox?

1.

Term originating in the UK used to refer to a paradox in the modern commercial services industry whereby providers can actually earn more money (at least in the short term) by underperforming at their joband providing a reduced level of service. The term is credited as being coinedby David Ziebart, prominent UKrecruitment consultant.

Examples of typical Ziebart Paradoxes in modern culture include:

A waiter who gets the order wrong but gains a larger tip when the restaurant offers the incorrectly ordered items on the house.

A badly trained or ignoranttaxi driver who gets caught in a well known traffic jam thus pocketing a greater fare for a potentially shorter journey.
