What is Chigaimasu?

A japanese word meaning "Wrong". It is normal for alot of japanese people to use this in every situation possible wether it be good or bad. Also notorious for being used on the phone when someone has dialed the incorrect number. It also seems to be used alot by people studying the language even when they don't know its meaning and they'll just use it for shits and giggles.

(Person 2)もしもし。みちるです。 (Hello, this is Michiru)
(Person 1)もしもし。田中はいらっしゃいますか？ (Hello. Is Tanaka there?)
(Person 2)ちがいます！(Wrong!)
(Hangs up)
