In the course of a non-expert discussion of a topic, to suddenly and inappropriately refer to scientific, statistical or historical information about the topic, often of a questionable or half-true nature. Contrast
A: Dick Cheney is freakin' evil.
B: You'd think so, but--watch me drop fact here--he's actually the country's third-biggest donor to cancer research, if I'm not mistaken.
