Fairy Hook

What is Fairy Hook?

1.

The small cloth loop sewn into the center back of Oxford-style boys shirts. This loop has no apparent reason, but during elementary and middle school years, they often are pulled off or torn off by others to tease the wearer of the shirt. Of course, this damages the shirt, causing more grief for the student from their parents. Similar to fairy button. These two terms seem to be indigenous to Florida in the 60's-70's, as I've interviewed many individuals and no one outside that area seems familiar with the term.

"Hah, hah... Marie pulled off David's fairy hook while we were standing in the lunchroom line!" "Now he's going to get it when he gets home."
