What is Figurant?

2. Performer with no speaking part.

3. Singer with no solo part

4. Actor with no lead part

5. Person with no status higher then that of simple group member.

Late 18th century. < French, present participle of figurer "represent" < Latin figura (see figure)

Thomas was just another figurant in the rank and file of followers.
