Before flavored beers, in NYC, kids would drink 1/3rd of their 40 oz. of Malt Liquor, then pour in a Hawaiian Punch 12oz can, to flavor the beer and make it easy to chug. Popular in the early 90's in the NYC club scene/hip-hop scene. Comes from Hawaiian Punch=Hawaii and 4-0=40 ounce of beer.
