Going out with a friend of the opposite sex (or same sex if you're gay/lesbian) for a fun Platonic time that might have otherwise been a date.

Also known as "friends," which is harder to explain to a spouse when one is married.

I'm going to dinner at Wild Ginger then to see Rent with Pat, my platonidate for the evening.
