When one eats less than satisfactory food due to poverty rather than to become skinny. Often consists of food like Top Ramen. College students are often victims of the poor man's diet.
Person A: Dude, there's nothing but microwave dinners in your freezer.
Person B: Yeah, I had to go on the poor man's diet after I bought my new couch.
