An expression of frustration, protest, anger or outrage, that is generally understood to be futile. Frequently used online, in the third person, by someone writing about himself or herself.
Possibly arising from the lyrics of "Lucky Ball and Chain" by They Might Be Giants (1990):
"I can shake my tiny fist / And swear I wasn't wrong / But what's the sense in arguing / When you're all alone?"
