What is Tommy Cooker?
1.
During WWII in North Africa, German soldiers in the Afrika Korps referred to the British they fought against as Tommies. By late 1942 the introduction of the Panzer V or "Tiger I" changed the battlefield. The Tiger was able to destroy all British- and later American- tanks in a single shot. German troops then began to refer to the tank as a Tommy Cooker.
"Did you hear about that battle near Kasserine Pass? Man, those Tommy Cookers made short order of the American positions."
