What is Zurna?

An oboelike instrument without keys, with a double reed mounted on a slender tube called "pirouette". The zurna has a shrill, piercing sound well suited to music to be played in the open. Widespread among Bulgarians, Turks, Greeks, Albanians, Armenians, Georgians, and other Caucasus, Central Asian, and Middle Eastern cultures, even into China where it is called "so-na".

The Lak man from Daghestan played the zurna and everybody started to dance.
